Dr. Sarkar began her career as a researcher in Biology, before shifting her focus to vaccine development and cancer drug resistance. Her research journey took her to Japan and later to the United States, a country renowned for its advancements in modern science and innovation. After years of teaching at the University of Miami, Dr. Sarkar sought a career that was not only intellectually fulfilling but also soul-satisfying, leading to the creation of Hitah. The company’s factory is in Kanchipuram, an ancient temple town in Southern India, just 70 km from the bustling city of Chennai. At a village in Kanchipuram, Dr. Sarkar and her team have trained and employed local women, some of whom work as full-time staff at Hitah. The company’s mission extends beyond creating eco-friendly products; Dr. Sarkar is also dedicated to creating employment opportunities for economically disadvantaged women and women who need a second chance in life in the United States and across the globe, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.
